Spring City Martial Arts, had a good showing at the KC Challenge 2009, at Rockhurst University, on Feb 22nd.Mr. Jarrett Leiker, was our honored host for this tournament. Approximately 15 total number of folks from ElDorado Springs, traveled to KC for the event.I judged, 4 of our students competed, with the balance of folks as the Eldo cheering section. Competitors who brought home victories were: Mr. Donald Witt-3rd in Forms and 4th in Sparring in the Jr. Black Belt Division: Steve Kaumans was in the Underbelt Adult division, bringing home a 3rd in Forms and 3rd in Sparring: Shania Ashbaker , Jr. Underbelt-1st Forms and 1st Sparring: Chevy Ashbaker-3rd in forms and 4th in Sparring Jr. Underbelt. Others attending as spectators were students and parents of students: They were Kelly Kaumans, Dakota Kaumans,Stewart Pollack and his son Joe,Janel Brown, Mercades Bartram, Jaycub Bartram,& Miss Jennica Ratti, a close friend of Donald Witt.I truly love judging, but had a special honor at this tournament, as I accepted a beautiful Achievement plaque, presented to Mr. Riaan Van Dyk, for his many years of dedicated contributions, to the MartiaL Arts. Mr. Van Dyk was unable to attend the tournament, and I was honored to accept for him.I also was so proud to present a beautiful plaque to a young man who has grown the last year, in spite of much hardship and adversity. Mr. Donald Witt was the recipient of a beautiful plaque, acknowledging his sucess in overcoming numerous personal challenges, and selflessness and tireless efforts for our students' training. So many times, Donald put his personal needs aside to help our students.A noble virtue, indeed. A very wise Ronald Reagan once said,"There is no limit to what you can accomplish
if you don't care who gets the credit." Most honored congratulations to both these fine young men.It was a glorious day, and as always, all the glory goes to God. The picture is at Rockhurst University, in the Fieldhouse Lobby, where the tournament was held. IHS, Sensei Fleener |
